Day 5: B&Bs FTW

Distance: 14.5 miles
Hills: lost count

Today was a pretty straight forward walk.

We went through a few little villages and one big town and arrived at our fabulous B&B, Penarwyn House. It is magnificent Victorian manor house.

In London, we stayed in a trendy boutique hotel. I loved the decor and location. But the B&Bs are different. Not just from a hotel, but from each other. Each is a unique place with hosts who love their homes and are happy to be sharing them with you. So far, we've stayed in a Victorian row house in Penzance.

The former town butcher's in Porthleven.

A quaint country cottage outside Probus.

And now this magnificent mansion.

All very different and we've loved them all. The best part is spending time with our hosts getting to know them, getting a feel for the area, the history of their homes.

Tomorrow, we've planned a short walking day so we can visit the Eden Project before we leave this area. It's a complex of huge domes housing tropical and Mediterranean biomes. We're not exactly sure what it's all about, but we'll find out tomorrow.

Location:East of St. Austelle

I should have done a painting of Al like that. Put it right
on that wall in your front entrance. Very inviting!
    Thanks for the awesome postcard.

  4. Loved reading your entry on the B&B's/inns you've visited. A nice coincidence... because when I was telling my family about your blog and trip it lead in a roundabout way to us wondering if any of your B&B's were turning out like John Cleese's "Fawlty Towers" (1980's BBC show)? We've enjoyed introducing our two girls to Fawlty Towers the past week, and had some good family laughs watching the show. Hopefully, your hosts are a bit more together.....but maybe it could be amusing to stay somewhere like the Towers?

  6. Hi Dawn Hi Al! I printed out the first 7 days worth of blogs and comments and read them out loud to Kent on a drive to Boise (to watch Annette's lacrosse tournament). You entertained us from Salem to Portland! We chuckled and giggled greatly (and not just Kent LAUGHING at me trying to pronounce things like Truro and Chycara -- they're hard to say various times, really!) and totally envy your adventures! Kent LOVES your descriptions Al (e.g. "kick ass cathedral") and your appreciation of a fine beer at the end of a day! I just may get him to partake in a similar adventure thanks to your sharing of these finer things! **smile** We got back from Boise last night and are once again behind reading your blogs but I wanted to say hello and let you know we are living vicariously through your words. We'll catch up tonight.

OH! and p.s. LOVED the "Don't feed the seagulls they are vicious" sign and connection to The Birds!

  7. The B&Bs remind me of the Cotswold Way! I remember liking how each of them did an English breakfast slightly differently.
