Two weeks to go

I can't believe that in two short weeks we will be flying off to London. It's still seems crazy to me.

This weekend we had to be in Portland so we packed our packs and planned a dress rehearsal for today. One of the things we love about our condo is that we can walk right out our door and end up on beautiful trails in Forest Park in less than two miles. We started the morning at St. Honore boulangerie for a bit of breakfast then headed up into the park.

For you Oregonians, we took Thurman up to Leif Erickson Drive, the Alder trail then Wildwood all the way back to Washington Park and our condo. It was just over 13 miles with probably more climbing than we'll be doing, at least in the first month. We walked for 5 hours and could have used some breaks. We'll have to be sure to stop from time to time and get off our feet and have a snack when we're in England. (yay, Hob Nobs!)

Our gear worked just as we were hoping. Our study of Fixing Your Feet paid off with no major blisters for either of us.
Our packs were comfortable and light, which was the hope. Mine was about 15 lbs and Al's was about 30 lbs. Sore and tired feet and legs were no surprise and will hopefully improve as we go.
So things are definitely coming together. A few more walks with our packs and we'll be off.

  4. You have toe socks? I'll have to check out that book - I've seen some feet that need fixing at work!

  7. Dawn -
    1) As you pass Penzance, be wary of Pirates.
    2) When you stay at Glengarry up in Scotland, you will be very close to friends of ours who live in Glenelg who also do a lot of walking. Colin and Anne are delightful folk and I"m sure you would get along. Let me know if you want me to connect you guys!
