We're in London

I'm not sure what day it is, but we are sitting in the restaurant at our hotel in London enjoying a cup of coffee and breakfast. This is my veggie breakfast. No black pudding!

I remember that we began our journey in Portland on Sunday morning. We flew to San Francisco on Alaska, then transferred to Virgin Atlantic to fly to London. We were on a giant 747, but man are those seats crammed. I watched 3 movies from a foot away from the screen thanks to the lounger sitting in front of me. Al didn't even try to use his screen.

Our flight was uneventful, but neither of us got any sleep. The Heathrow Express train to Paddington was super fast and convenient and the cab ride from there to our hotel gave us our first glimpse of the city, including the traffic. Our cabbie, who sounded just like Ricky Gervais, let us out early, since we were at a standstill less than a block from the hotel.

Since we arrived at the hotel before 11am, we just dropped our bags and headed out. Took a peek at the Nat'l Gallery and Nat'l Portrait Gallery, walked through Trafalger Square and Piccadilly Circus. Even deked into the British Museum to see the Rosetta Stone and Elgin Marbles.

Now we're off to Harrod's!

  2. Glad you had a safe trip. What, afraid to ask, is black pudding? Sounds dreadful!

    2. Larry's right! His prize: a nice thick slice of black pudding - yum. We'll blog about English breakfast in a couple of weeks after we gain a little more experience. -al
